Time for a quick report on today's action. I was lucky enough as an old man to play 2. Yep, that's right. Back-to-back games, offense and defense both. A few of us did that feat today and it was a total blast. I played for the Dolphins at 2:45 and then the Texans as 4:00. Others to do that included Tyler Martin and Stire as the only others to double up that I can remember off the top of my head.
The 2:45 game was a tight battle in the first half. After that, the Dola studs fell apart and we couldn't get much action on the board. The youngsters of the Bears are a fun squad and my hats are definitely off to those guys. They can play and have a good bit of surprising speed and underrated line play. Line play makes a HUGE difference in this league. Me and Bishop were talking about that, Dola may be the only team that doesn't have a steady line. You can have the fastest guys out there but with no line, that makes for rough times. On the Bears side, their line held up very well. DeMarco is a beast out there and he loves getting dirty in the trenches and talking a little trash with a half a can of snuff in his lip, that's what the SFL is all about.
The 4:00 game? Ouch!! Maybe I'm not giving enough credit to the Raiders, Steelers and Lions as all are really good teams in my opinion, but the Bengals were downright impressive today as I've heard they have been all season long. Guys of our my age definitely know this is nothing new as we've been seeing it for 15+ years, but Harman throws absolute bullets with pinpoint accuracy. Trent and Todd get set up in the perfect areas, something that Harmer is really good at doing too. It was a pure beatdown, not a thing anyone on the Texans could do, myself included in that mix. Bengals, as I said to the Bears above, my hats are off to you. Good seeing the old men rock it out.
I have the SFL curse on me, but it continues my streak now to 0-14 I believe. How is that even possible? Ugh. Either way, I loved being out there today and thought I played well enough. Everyone knows I don't care a whole lot for offense, but had to play a good bit of it today. Defense, give me my reps in the secondary and I'm a happy guy. Not that it made a difference, but I got to pull in a nice INT off of Harman in the second game. I'm pretty sure the final of that game was 135-6. I could be off a bit, but not very much if so. For those who haven't seen Bam Bam on the line for the Bengals, this guy isn't messing one around one bit folks. He might eat someone before the year is up and then spit em out and break all their bones afterwards. I'm just glad I'm not on the line. Tyler Martin was saying the same thing and coming from one of the better lineman in the entire league (Tyler that is, in my opinion), even he was amazed by this guy. Nice find there Bengals. It'll be a fun matchup next weekend to see the Lions line which is also very good to go against the Bengals studs. Fortney and Bam Bam, throw in Frankie Tate if he shows up again and that's serious.
I don't know a lot of the Steelers guys, but who was the Steelers dude reffing the 4:00 game? Whoever he was, he stayed there the entire day, so props to him for rocking that out, not many are that committed. A really good dude too that I got to talk to a bit, but never did even think of asking his name. Also, the other refs that hung around or guys that helped pick up for the Texans game at 4:00, good stuff.
Ok, enough rambling. Was weird not seeing any posts since the games ended, but I'm sure Monday morning will be hot with posts, can't wait. Bart Scott style, "Can't waitttttttt!"
